Monie Corona: APS Indian Education Department/TLN Place-Based Outdoor Educator
Monie Corona, a proud native New Mexican, has dedicated her life to fostering a deep appreciation for nature and cultural heritage among her students. Growing up amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Albuquerque, with the Sandia mountains and the Rio Grande as her playground, Monie's passion for the outdoors was ignited at a young age. With over three decades of experience as an educator with the Albuquerque Public Schools, she continues to inspire others as an Place-Based Outdoor Education Resource Teacher, weaving her love for exploration into engaging lessons and hands-on experiences. Beyond the classroom, Monie's thirst for adventure knows no bounds, as she embarks on Jeep expeditions across New Mexico, discovering hidden hiking trails and camping spots. Through her unwavering dedication to honoring her Hispanic heritage and championing inclusivity in outdoor spaces, Monie inspires both young and old to forge meaningful connections with the wonders of the natural world.
