This 80-minute collaborative session provides an overview of the CSTAG behavioral threat assessment model and the role of the Integrated Support Team (IST) in supporting prevention- and intervention-focused responses in schools. Grounded in the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG), this session highlights how Albuquerque Public Schools’ IST uses a proactive, multidisciplinary approach to identify and respond to student needs early and effectively. Participants will learn how IST collaborates with site-based threat assessment teams to review concerns, assess levels of risk, and develop intervention plans that prioritize student safety, well-being, and connection. This structured process shifts the focus from punishment to support by connecting students and families to appropriate school-based and community resources. Through real-world examples, guided discussion, and collaborative application activities, participants will learn to distinguish between threat classifications and apply practical strategies for de-escalation, self-regulation, and early intervention in the classroom. The session emphasizes aligning behavioral threat assessment with restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and positive school climate. Participants will also hear directly from school administrators and staff about their experiences collaborating with IST and how the threat assessment process has informed their interventions and responses to student threats.
